HeldNews.com - National Commission for Women along with 37 organizations in 33 districts in 21 Provinces will conduct a campaign with the theme 'Sexual Violence: Recognize and Handle'.
16-day campaign against violence against women will be held from 25 November to 10 December 2010 simultaneously in 33 districts in 21 provinces with a variety of activities such as film screenings, cultural approaches, and discussion.
Campaign with the theme "Sexual Violence: Recognize and Handle" is done also in order to commemorate the international day against violence against women which falls on November 25th.

Coordinator Community Participation Division National Commission for Women, Siti Maesaroh in Jakarta, on Wednesday explained the campaign is meant for people to understand and recognize other forms of violence and the fight for women's rights.
"16 days campaign is deliberately linked to the momentum in the two major momentum. On 25 November that was the day the International Violence Against Women and December 10th is Human Rights Day worldwide.
So we are deliberately link the two momentum it to say that violence against women is a form of violation of human rights and if we want to uphold human rights in Indonesia, then could not we have to eliminate all forms of violence against women, "said Siti Maesaroh.
Monitoring the National Commission for Women from 1998 to 2010 showed nearly a third of cases of violence against women is a case of sexual violence. There are approximately 91,311 cases of sexual violence than 300 thousand total cases of violence against women.
According to the Commissioner for National Commission for Women, Neng Dara Affiah, sexual violence against women occurs in all aspects of both personal, public and state.
According Neng Dara, women human rights defenders, women penyadang disabilities, women with HIV / AIDS and migrant workers have a special vulnerability to sexual violence. While rape, trafficking in women for sexual purposes, sexual harassment and sexual abuse are four types of sexual violence are at record ever National Commission for Women.
Furthermore Neng Dara said the high cases of violence against women in Indonesia is caused by a number of factors.
"How to think we think that it's not a bad one. The second mindset of our society still assumes that women only become sexual objects only. The cause of the three women, who become victims instead blamed," said Neng Dara.
Meanwhile, deputy Assistant Professional Organizations and Private Affairs of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Nurti Mukti Wibawati admit that until recently violence against women in Indonesia is still high.
